Reflecting on the current political and environmental crisis our world is facing, I decided to return to abstract photography and examine objects/structures that are easily ignored or overlooked, as an exercise to work through my thoughts and frustrations. Utilizing an intentional layered, softer focus, the images in the “Peripheries” series represents a conceptual, experimental and non-objective look at concrete. While concrete is inanimate, it represents for me a perfect metaphor for the overlooked, ignored or discarded. I challenge the viewer to look at the images and realize that not all is as it seems and, hopefully this realization will translate to the world around them.
